On September 15, a group of young journalists from Kosovo visited the Media Council for Self-Regulation (MSS), as part of the Media Fellowship Program organized by the OSCE Mission in Kosovo.
The representatives of MSS, Ranko Vujović and Jelena Dragutinović, introduced the guests to the model of self-regulation in Montenegro, the work of the Council and its role in promoting ethical journalism. In particular, the new Code of Journalists of Montenegro was presented, as well as the role of the MSS in its preparation, presentation to the public, and monitoring of its implementation.
This was an opportunity to exchange experiences and talk about the work and role of the Council, the mandate of this organization, the methodology of monitoring media content, as well as the role of media self-regulation in improving ethical journalism and protecting the audience, with a question and answer session with members of the Media Council team.
The MSS was presented to the guests as a self-regulatory body that currently has 79 members. Members of the MSS answered numerous questions about the methodology of monitoring media content, the method of submitting complaints and the decision-making process. One of the topics was what the complainants most often complain about, that is, what the Montenegrin media most often violates in relation to the Code.
The focus of the visit organized by the OSCE Kosovo Mission was on professional standards, sustainability of the media, safety of journalists, media ethics, investigative journalism and reporting on corruption.
The media scholarship program brings together young journalists and those who strive for professional advancement from all over Kosovo. The program connects them with experienced journalists and media professionals, in order to exchange best practices and knowledge about professional standards, quality reporting and respect for ethical codes.
